The 2015 Sociando Mallet shows better in bottle than in barrel. It has an attractive, well-defined nose of wild strawberry and red currant plus traces of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and crisp acidity, and fleshier than some of its peers. A dab of spice surfaces toward the elegant if slightly austere and light finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
A balanced and harmonious barrel sample with subtle yet firm tannin structure and a long and delicious finish. Should improve nicely with barrel aging.
One of the standouts of the vintage, the 2015 Sociando Mallet is all finesse. Light on its feet, gracious and super-expressive, the 2015 speaks to class above all else. The flavors are bright and beautifully lifted in this polished, sophisticated Haut-Médoc. Although a touch light, the 2015 is very pretty. The blend is 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. 2022 - 2040
The 2015 Sociando Mallet offers lovely depth and consistency. Silky, floral and beautifully persistent on the palate, the 2015 is one of the most finessed Haut-Médocs I tasted. Bright red stone fruit, earthiness and sweet floral notes are all nicely delineated throughout. The 2015 is not a huge wine, but it makes its case with lovely aromatics, subtlety and grace. This is an especially strong wine from the northern Médoc in 2015. Tasted two times.
Tasted blind. Dark, concentrated crimson. Very dry and rather austere. But no worse than some of those lesser St-Estèphes! Just a bit leaden, with a green finish.
Drink 2022-2030
Glowing crimson. Ripe and exuberant on the nose. Round and fresh - very like a St-Estèphe in build with its sucky-stony character on the end. Fully ripe and very refreshing. Very vigorous.
Drink 2022-2035
This Northern Medoc property of 57 hectares has been making wine of classed growth quality for many years. Always matured in 100% new oak, the 2015 blend is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot. Medium ruby colour with a nose of black cherry with a little toast. The juicy core of black fruit on the palate is tempered by firm Medocain tannins. Notes of spice and wood smoke rise on the finish to leave a classic, savoury, Medocain style.
This is a lovely wine with a delicious, lip-smacking aroma and a sleek, black fruit palate. With superb texture and a long,
ripe finish, coupled with refreshing tannins and a crisp finish, this is a terrific wine.
