Tasting Notes

The 2015 Pensées de Lafleur has a clean and precise, mineral-driven bouquet that is razor-sharp. It feels tightly wound but the focus is certainly here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, plenty of cedar and tobacco-tinged black fruit with a truffle and smoke infused finish that feels very long. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

The aromas are really so floral and mineral but also comprise cloves, currants and blackberries. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and caressing finish. Tight and focused. Need five years to soften but so pretty. A selection of Lafleur. Drink in 2023.

While Lafleur is based on the gravel soils in Pomerol, Pensees de la Fleur is made from the vines on clay. The 2015 Pensees is a blend of 54% Merlot and 46% Cabernet Franc with a medium to deep garnet color. The nose is quite closed, revealing, with much swirling, notes of plum preserves, licorice, and black cherries plus wafts of tar and forest floor. Full-bodied, rich and decadent, the palate is laden with densely packed black fruits, framed by ripe, velvety tannins, finishing long and spicy.

Tasted blind. Rather dull, light crimson. Intensely ripe nose. Sweet and ripe. Very rich but not sickly. Nicely balanced.
Drink 2023-2033

The 2015 Les Pensees de Lafleur has come along marvelously in bottle, much more open than it showed en primeur with almost lush blackberry and raspberry aromas laced with rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, good weight in the mouth, very well-judged acidity with a lightly spiced, chalky-textured finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine, an outstanding deuxième vin. Anticipated maturity: 2020 - 2032.

The 2015 Les Pensees de Lafleur is a blend of 54% Merlot, picked on September 21, and 46% Cabernet Franc that was picked on October 2. It has a broody bouquet with cranberry and raspberry coulis aromas, touches of dried herbs and brine developing with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with lightly spiced red berry fruit, vibrant in the mouth, very harmonious with superb precision on the finish. What a gorgeous deuxième vin from Baptiste Guinaudeau. Drink Date 2018 - 2032

The 2015 Pensées de Lafleur is medium garnet-purple colored with a stunning nose of crushed black cherries, cassis and red currant jelly with lavender, charcuterie and truffles notions plus a waft of tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and good concentration, finishing long and earthy.

Edge of ruby on mid - but not that concentrated - crimson. Attractively toasty (Baptiste says 'burgundian'). Very round and mouth-filling. Super charming. Rich, even with a hint of Grenache! So sweet and scented. Hint of ink on the end. Very rich and seductive. Still some freshness too. Drink 2023 - 2032
