The 2014 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is more introspective on the nose compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, as you would expect. The 2014 Charmes comes out to greet you...this you have to stick your nose in deep to discern the blackberry and subtle licorice aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very good weight, more masculine than the Charmes-Chambertin, with a stern backbone provided a firm frame. This is clearly a serious Latricières-Chambertin for those fortunate enough to find some of the three and a half barrels of this juice. I suspect it may surpass the Charmes-Chambertin in the long term.

Here the timid nose is both cooler and more restrained with its elegant combination of red and dark currant, earth, rose petal and wet stone scents. There is an equally elegant mouth feel to the stony, precise and energetic medium weight flavors that display first-rate persistence on the impeccably well-balanced finale. A textbook Latricières of grace and class.
