Here too reduction renders the nose unreadable. Otherwise there is good vibrancy to the restrained and well-delineated flavors that are lacy but intense, all wrapped in a saline and stony finish. This is a classic Chambolle of refinement.
Domaine Felettig is fast becoming one of our favourite rising-stars of Burgundy, and this 2014 Chambolle Vieilles Vignes is the perfect example why. Bright ruby in the glass, the nose shows great purity - a little struck match gives way to wild strawberries and juicy red cherries. The hint of spice comes through as vanilla and clove. The palate follows in this vein, with juicy red fruits and a hint of cherry blossom framed by delicate, ripe, and silky tannins that give a velveteen texture to the wine. The spice is light and sweet, complementing the fruit-focus as a subtle undertone. Fresh acidity lifts the finish and leaves a long, floral, and fragrant finish of great Chambolle typicity. Superb.
The 2014 Chambolle AC from the Felettigs is a very strong example, offering up a fine bouquet of black cherries, red plums, a touch of bitter chocolate, gamebird, chalky soil tones, new oak and a topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with excellent structure, fine-grained tannins and a long, well-balanced and still fairly primary finish. This will need time, but will be a fine example. 2021-2050.
