A huge step up. Rich dense black purple, the nose has more in common with Brûlées than Echezeaux. This is pretty much majestic, completely filling the middle palate, with a huge weight of glorious ripe pinot, yet still with abundant freshness. Tasted: October 2017
There is an interesting hint of mandarin orange to the notably ripe but equally restrained aromas of black cherry, rose petal, cassis and a wide range of spice elements. Like the Ech this is a big, muscular and concentrated effort with excellent size, weight and punch to the broad-shouldered flavors that culminate in a palate coating, serious and strikingly long finish. This is even more firmly structured and at least moderate patience will be necessary. Drink: 2031+
