Tasting Notes

A juicy and rich young wine with lots of fruit and density. Round and soft tannins with hints of freshness at the same time.

A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Carménère, the medium garnet-purple colored 2018 Fonbel opens with pepper and spice box scents, before delivering a core of baked plums, mulberries and fresh blackberries, plus hints of dried Provence herbs and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is delicately styled, with a lively line of freshness and chewy tannins to support the fresh red and black fruit flavors, finishing with an herbal lift. 2022 - 2032

Black core, purple rim. Smoky black fruit. Dark and just a touch charry. Plenty of fruit, tied up in the thickish tannins. Powerful and chewy and just fresh enough.

Deep ruby in colour, with a peppery, floral, ripe nose of dark cherries and blackberries. The palate is soft, supple and fragrant, packed with juicy black fruits and dried flowers. The tannins are soft, supple and integrated, allowing the exuberant fruit to shine. Long and peppery on the finish.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, April 2019

A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Carménère, the 2018 Château De Fonbel is a juicy, medium to full-bodied, elegant Saint-Émilion that has seriously good notes of black cherries, black raspberries, violets, and spice. It shows the ripe, sexy style of the vintage, but its purity of fruit and polished tannins set it apart. This is a beautiful wine and my money is on it being a best to date.

Made up of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Carménère, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Fonbel gives up spicy notes of Sichuan pepper, cinnamon stick, cloves and fenugreek with a core of warm red and black cherries, mulberries and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has wonderful freshness and a soft, creamy texture supporting the vibrant red and black fruit preserves flavors, finishing with a peppery lift.
