Tasting Notes

One of the finest wines I have tasted from this estate, the 2005 Cos Labory exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue, aromas of road tar, blackberries, creme de cassis, forest floor, smoke, and graphite, medium to full body, and abundant tannin. It is a complete, dense effort with high tannins in the finish. Once the tannins melt away, it should represent an outstanding example of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030

A silky and simple red with plum and berry character. Firm and silky tannins, with a medium finish. Slightly short, but could move up a notch after aging.

James Suckling, Wine-Journal.com, March 2006

Tasted blind. Blackish ruby. Clean as a whistle, very generous and sweet with a tannic undertow. Rather reminds me of the structure of a Pichon Lalande.
Drink 2016-2030

Jammy black fruits, pure, appealing, clean, some distant grilled notes. More black fruit, a touch austere, big tannins, substantial fruit, very young. Good structure and fruit, well built. Good wine, long evolving finish. Drink from 2018. Awarded 5 stars.

The 2005 is the finest effort I have tasted from this estate in many years. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of graphite, blueberry liqueur, espresso, and roasted herbs. Impressively constituted, medium to full-bodied, tannic, and rich, it is the most complete and intense Cos Labory I have ever tasted. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025+.

Cos Labory is another estate that has made its finest wine in decades. The medium-bodied, structured, pure 2005 exhibits notes of creme de cassis, roasted herbs, and blueberries. Consume this impressively endowed St.-Estephe between 2013-2023.

Not much on the nose. Opulent palate entry - so sleek it's difficult to find the tannins! Not quite enough freshness and fruit, instead, all polish

Blackish crimson. Inky, rather pure and svelte. Very tight and neat and well drawn though pretty tough and austere on the finish. Classic though. Very, very like sucking on a stone. Drink 2017-27
