Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. This 2007 Alter Ego de Palmer has a slightly higher-toned bouquet than its peers though without the same charm, and there is just a touch of volatility coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, truffle-tinged red fruit, with good weight on the finish that is missing a little finesse. Stocky and blunt at first, although it does "tuck its shirt in" with continued aeration, so I suggest a healthy decant. Tasted March 2015. Drink Date 2016 - 2026
Lovely aromas of blackberry and chocolate on the nose, following through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a clean and fresh finish. This represents 50 percent of the production in 2007
Mid crimson. Light, lively super-brisk nose. Very round and easy and lovely already - pure airline stuff. Great texture. Great balance just very slightly astringent on the finish but a gentle little thing. More freshness on the nose than the Ch Palmer itself. Very light but lively. Drink 2010-13
Deep velvety colour, lovely Merlot nose showing spicy blackberry fruit, already smooth with blended, suave tannins and lovely length, a strikingly attractive wine. Drink 2011-17. 4 stars.
This has a very attractive nose with ripe, bright black fruits laced with a little mocha and espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine grainy tannins. Good acidity, a nice savoury aspect to the wine this year with nice build towards a dense finish with touches of roasted herbs. It does not have the length of a great Alter Ego, but it certainly has the delineation and the breeding. Very crisp on the dry masculine finish. Tasted April 2008.
