This beautiful effort is evolving glacially with its ripe but still exceptionally fresh nose of blackberries, plum oriental spice and soft earth notes. There is excellent phenolic maturity to the equally ripe, rich and relatively supple medium-bodied flavors that are still underpinned by notably firm tannins and really lovely acid/fruit balance on the beautifully long finish. This is still tight but not hard and there is good vigor, indeed even force behind this wine. The '99 is one of the better DRC Echézeaux in a long time and while it could be drunk now with pleasure I will continue to cellar my few bottles for another 4 to 7 years though I underscore that it will live effortlessly for years. Tasted several times recently with consistent notes. Drink 2021+
The spectacular 1999 Echézeaux may be the finest vintage I have tasted of this offering. A tremendously fragrant nose of raspberries, cherries, strawberries, new oak, and gamy scents led to a medium to full-bodied, broadly flavored wine with stunning suppleness, a kiss of sweet oak, and enough acidity to provide definition as well as length. This terrific, still youthful 1999 should hit its prime in 4-5 years, and last until 2015+.
Echezeaux 1999 – The medium ruby-coloured- 1999 Echezeaux has a demure, dark fruit-scented nose. It bursts on the palate with lush layers of intensely sweet cherries, candied black raspberries, and spices. This lovely wine is forward, feminine, and satin – textured. It is medium to full bodied, highly expressive, and possesses prodigiously ripened tannin. Drink it over the next 10 –12 years. 91-93 points / issue 136
