Langhe Nebbiolo, Azienda Agricola Sottimano 2015

Tasting Notes

Located in the Nieve area, Sottimano sources fruit for this wine from across the larger Langhe appellation. The 2015 Langhe Nebbiolo is a terrific, mid-weight wine to pair with white meat, roasted ham or chicken. It opens to a light garnet color and offers great aromatic intensity. I wish I had a few more bottles of this (well-priced) wine around the house. Dark cherry is followed by earthy tones, licorice and ash.

'This is our “Barbaresco village”, from the cru Basarin and the vinification is exactly the same as for our Barbaresco, with the sole difference that this is from young vines (15 years). This is not a declassified Barbaresco, but a single-vineyard Nebbiolo.' Bottled one week ago. Total SO2 only 25 mg/l because it was bottled using inert gas. Leesy breadcrumb nose and still a little closed. Succulent red fruit with a little vanilla pick-up from the cask. Very fine and elegant and quite tannic on the finish. Can age. 2017-2024
