Sweet tobacco and dark berries with currant and violet undertones. Full body, layers of tannins and a solid center-palate, showing an interplay of fruit and tannins. This needs time to soften. One of the best I have had from here. 48% cabernet sauvignon, 29% merlot and 23% petit verdot. Drink after 2027.
The 2019 Moulin Riche has turned out nicely, delivering aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, sweet soil tones and subtle hints of cigar wrapper. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, with bright acids and powdery tannins, it's open and charming. This was once a second wine for Léoville-Poyferré, but as the vineyard (which was replanted by Didier Cuvelier) matured, it became an estate in its own right, with a second wine of its own, derived from a 20-hectare block located in inland Saint-Julien. Drink 2021-2039.
Tasted blind. Impressive depth of colour. High-toned. Juice and shape and structure. Good stuff! Purple-fruit flavours. Juicy! 14%
