Tasting Notes

The 2021 Hosanna offers a solid showing in bottle, mingling aromas of cassis and minty blueberries with notions of baking chocolate, licorice and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it's comparatively rich for the vintage, with sweet, powdery tannins and a spicy finish. Drink 2027-2041.

The 2021 is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, harvested from 24th September to 6th October. Vibrant purple colour. Very polished, fleshy black fruit on the nose. Hints of incense and allspice berries add an exoticism that makes for a heady blend of aromas. This follows on the palate, which is smoky but has cool blue and black fruits together with sweeter liquorice. Smoky, cool black fruit with hints of liquorice. Full bodied for the vintage, the succulent fruit is matched by plentiful, velveteen tannins and lifted by the bright acidity. Pure and deep, this is a very fine example of Pomerol.

This is silky and very fine with firm, seamless tannins that are just a tiny bit angular now. Medium body. Plenty of sweet mulberry, raspberry, wet clay and olive notes. Mocha at the end. Long.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, May 2022

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Hosanna is medium to deep garnet-purple colored. It rolls out of the glass with expressive notes of warm black plums, boysenberries, and violets, giving way to scents of crushed rocks, clove oil, and Sichuan pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound with vibrant black fruit and loads of mineral sparks, supported by plush tannins and finishing with a skip in its step.

Beautifully constructed, cheerful, if a little tight, this needs time to round out, but has delicious sculpted fruits and spiralling gunsmoke and grilled earth that focuses the end of play. Harvest September 24 to October 6.

75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.
Savoury and meaty, full and round with some drive on the finish. Tannins fine but less power and intensity than recent years. Harmonious all the same. (JL)

The 2021 Hosanna is a fleshy, expressive wine, offering up aromas of sweet plums and berries mingled with spices, licorice, rose petals and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, broad and open-knit, it's a lively, charming wine that will likely take on more depth and structure with further élevage in barrel.
