I queried the order of service because it might seem logical to put this wine alongside Montmains and Forêts, but instead it is placed here on grounds of a rising order of power. Averaging 50 years, while Forêts has less clay and younger vines. First up come chiselled marine notes. Much tighter than Montée de Tonnerre but with similar power, excellent aftertaste, with tingling saline inflections.
A windy plot along to the top of Montmains. This has a quite powerful and concentrated array of ripe white peaches and mangoes. The clay in the soil here adds a lot of texture to the palate. Finishes very succulent, juicy and intense. Wow!
