The 1964 Rivesaltes is slightly deeper in hue, indicating that it contains a bit more Grenache Noir. The aromatics are wonderfully lively and focused with superbly delineated marmalade, quince and a very slight rancio quality. The palate is well balanced with a touch of liquorice on the entry, marmalade, stewed apricot, hints of yellow plum and orange rind. Very harmonious and persistent on the finish, Rivesaltes does not get better than this fabulous fortified. Drink 2025-2045.
A bit more Grenache Noir than the other VDNs from this producer.
Darker amber than some. Very sweet and almost porty. A hint of violet cachous/sweet shop (candy store). A little heavier than most. (JR)
The 1964 has a rich iron note alongside sweet, seductive dried fruit. There is a savoury depth of nutmeg, incense and clove here and a rancio nuttiness too. High acid cuts through silky sweetness on the palate, with an almost Madeira like lipsmacking freshness. There is a light grip, layers of roasted nuts and dried fruit at the core. Long, fine and tangy on the finish.
