The latest edition of Krug's iconic Grande Cuvée is based around the 2015 vintage and includes 131 wines dating back to 2000. There is 45% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay and 18% Meunier in the blend. Bright gold in colour with a fine mousse in the glass, the nose displays all the character you would expect from this wine: toasted brioche, ripe orchard fruits and red apple blend with hints of fresh ginger and green almond. The palate is broad on entry, a generous but fine mousse allowing the fruit to flesh out beautifully. This is a fruit-forward and moreish rendition of Grande Cuvée, bursting with orchard fruits, quince and tamarind. The acids are bright and zesty, cutting through the generous breadth on display. With this refreshing finesse comes more of the savoury brioche and roasted nut tone, which is delicate but persistent on the finish. A joy to drink now, this doubtless still has serious ageing potential for those willing to be patient.
