Tasting Notes

Smells quite autolytic, yeasty and bready, nutty too with faint florality and touches of salt - expressive and open on the nose with caramel, vanilla and buttery toast accents. Sharp and highly acidic on the palate with piercing citrus fruit aromas give this an immediate tang and edges and a tight frame offering some tension still. So frothy and lively, fresh and forward, this has an elegance to it that is really compelling with zing and a burst of lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit as well as some stony minerality that comes towards the finish. Bright, zesty and almost a bit sour, but there's concentration all the way through and this rounds out nicely. Still young but a compelling wine right now. Ageing 12 years on its lees and six months post disgorgement. 4g/l Extra Brut. Grapes come from a 1ha single vineyard farmed biodynamically, and certified HVE since 2019. Library release. Director Emmanuel Gantet, winemaker Hervé Dantan.

Golden apples, chalk, hazelnuts, saltines and sandalwood on the nose, with cloves and salted caramel. Some white tobacco. Intriguing and full of character, building on the palate, with a full body and spicy, phenolic layers. Very tight mousse. Long and intense. From a 1ha walled plot of chardonnay in Reims. Disgorged December 2022. 4g/L dosage. 6,768 bottles produced. Drink or hold.

Just love the nuanced character of this Champagne, from the toasted brioche aromatics, to the white pear, saffran, iris flowers, spiralling through to sea shell and salted cracker. Gentle but persistent mousse that draws the flavours out and makes you go back for more. A magical vintage in Champagne, and this is a library release from the 1ha Clos Lanson, now in its third year on the Place de Bordeaux. Hervé Dantan winemaker, Emmanuel Gantet director. The grapes are sourced entirely from grand cru vineyards.
