Volnay Les Champans, Domaine des Comtes Lafon 2020

Black purple colour, really intense, as indeed is the bouquet. Slowly a huge density of dark forest floor raspberry begins to emerge, still recognisable pinot, with the same important acidity running through the middle as per Clos des Chênes. There is high class fruit here, a few more tannins as is typical of Champans, and very good length.

The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Champans reveals aromas of cherries, sweet berries, dark chocolate, rich spices and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate framed by powdery tannins and lively acids, concluding with a sapid finish. As with the Clos des Chênes, this represents a particular success in 2020.
