Kelder Steen Chenin Blanc, A.A. Badenhorst 2022

Kelder is one of the lower lying blocks on the Kalmoesfontein farm on deeper, sandier soils at around 180 metres. The result in 2022 is perfumed, nuanced, beautifully balanced Chenin Blanc with flavours of peach, citrus and aniseed, chiselled minerality and the structure,concentration and freshness to age. Drink 2024-30.

A 1.2 ha site planted in 1971 on fine decomposed granite soils right by the Kelder (cellar in Afrikaans). Sun-warmed fig leaves, creamy pannacottta and apricot purée with the fruit positively dancing across the palate. Tangy acids add lift and definition to this delightfully sunny expression.
