Tasting Notes

There are just two one-year-old barrels of the 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets. Bouley’s parcel comes from 0.16 hectares of nine-year-old vines, but 85% was destroyed by hail in this year. It has a subtle bouquet with light raspberry and fresh strawberry scents, granitic scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. The fruit is ripe and there is an attractive feeling of poise and femininity here. This is a sophisticated Volnay, the terroir expressed. This is a sophisticated Volnay that will age well...such a pity most of it was taken by the hail.
