Côte Rôtie, Domaine Bernard Burgaud 2016

Tasting Notes

Deep brilliant ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of fresh dark berries, olive and pungent flowers, along with a hint of gaminess that builds with air. Chewy and spicy in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, cassis and floral pastille flavors that show very good depth and building sweetness. Chewy tannins frame the finish, which echoes the gamy note and lingers with strong, blue-fruit-driven persistence.

At the time of tasting it feels like it's starting to look inwards, becoming a little introverted. A light-bodied style of Côte-Rôtie. Even so there’s a lovely freshness to it, a real sense of purity and place, just no great complexity promised at this stage – time will tell. Texturally it’s very fine indeed, the tannins are almost imperceptible, making for a seamless wine on the palate.
