Rum's heartland is the Carribean, where the majority of the world's production comes from thanks to the abundance of sugar cane found here - rum's main constituent.

There are several key types of rum: light (mainly used for cocktails); gold (darker and heavier, often aged); dark (heavier still and aged for longer) and spiced or flavoured rum.
