The 2013 Les Pagodes de Cos has a straightforward bouquet, herbaceous blackberry and tertiary scents with appreciable lift from the glass. The palate is nicely balanced with supple tannin, the acidity well judged and while it clearly lacks complexity and length, I find this has more to offer than the 2013 Goulée thanks to the detail on the finish. Drink this over the next 4-5 years.
A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28 Merlot and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot - a higher percentage of Cabernet due to the low yielding Merlot. It has a pinched bouquet that slowly unwinds in the glass. It is well defined, a little more minerally than I expected. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, gentle grip and graphite towards the Pauillac-like finish. This deuxième vin feels a little compact at the moment and there is a little persistency, but it remains nicely focused. Tasted April 2014.
