This 25 hectare property in Margaux is owned by the Miailhe family who used to own Pichon Lalande and a part of Château Palmer. Vineyard plantings are split evenly between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller a smaller proportion of Petit Verdot and a little Cabernet Franc also planted. The vines average 30 years of age with some going back to the 1920s. The quality has improved enormously recently and the 2015 was very highly praised (quite rightly) by the critics. The consultant is Hubert de Bouard of Angélus.
Deep garnet-purple colored. A light waft of reduction to start with tar and rubber notes opening out to a core of red and black currants and red roses, plus a touch of sautéed herbs. The light to medium-bodied palate delivers a good intensity of savory flavors with a lightly chewy texture and seamless freshness, finishing earthy.
Aromas of earthy cassis and toasty oak preface the 2024 Siran, a medium-bodied, firm and angular young wine built around austere tannins that will require patience.
Mid-deep ruby colour in the glass. Pithy red fruit on the nose, with a strong note of fruit skins. The palate shows camphor and cedar, fresh plum and cranberries together with fruit blossoms. The acidity is lively, cutting through the finish and leaving lingering wood spice and red fruit.
Bright plum and red cherry, pleasurably sappy structure to the tannins, this is full of joy and gives a Margaux lift without having to wait too long. 30% new oak for ageing, 45hl/h yield, impressive quality and a success in the vintage.
Some roasted coffee, dark berries and cassis follow through to a juicy, medium- to full-bodied palate with nicely chewy tannins and a medium-long finish. Well-structured.
