The 2022 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is impenetrable today. Dried cherry fruit, mint, chalk, dried herbs and white pepper lend notable salivating energy. The 2022 feels compact and unyielding, both within the context of this wine (which is always more about linear intensity than size) and the year. Perhaps time will be of some help in softening the contours. Drink: 2028-2042
A very absorbing nose, showing flowers, passion fruit, sandalwood and crunchy red berries. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with a detailed, precise tannin structure and tender fruit, finishing firm and focused. From one of the higher-altitude crus in Barolo. This needs two to three years to soften. Better from 2029.
