Tasting Notes

I always love this wine from the Cavallotto family, but the organic 2020 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is still very much in a closed phase. Aromas of rusty nail, crushed stone, dried blackcurrant and rose petals emerge slowly from the glass, revealing the wine's considerable complexity beneath a veil of youthful reserve. At the moment, the structure is slightly ahead of the fruit, creating an impression of firmness and austerity that is reinforced by dusty tannins. As with other Riserva bottlings in this vintage, I sense that the fruit has yet to fully emerge and balance the wine's natural architecture. Given time, those elements should come into better alignment, making this a strong candidate for a prolonged drinking window. This is a production of 8,888 bottles, 666 magnums and 111 double magnums.
