Savigny Dominodes, Domaine Bruno Clair 2017

The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru has a much more backward, sulky bouquet compared to Les Jarrons, offering dark berry fruit and just a touch of flint that emerges with aeration. The medium-bodied palate displays a saline, almost briny opening. There is good density here, with tarry black fruit and that strong saline influence dominating the finish. A more cerebral Savigny. Bruno Clair makes two cuvées from La Dominode; the other one is made with young-vine fruit and labelled as Les Jarrons, while this comes from a parcel planted in 1902. Low yields, small, sweet berries and 30% each of stems and new wood have produced a sappy, floral, intense red with more grip and density than most wines from the village. (Drink between 2020-2025)
