Gorgeously reductive, this wine stuns with briny ocean aromatics, chipped flint minerality, and a salted grilled lemon smoky depth. An exhilarating mouthfeel of ocean brine, concentrated lemon flavours, dashes of white pepper and electric acidity. This Chardonnay shows why the cool Sta Rita Hills pair perfectly with the variety. 2024-2037.
The 2021 Chardonnay Wenzlau Vineyard offers a lovely combination of radiant mineral aromas against an elegantly waxy backdrop framed with mossy, savory accents. The palate shows lees-derived richness, pleasantly filling out its otherwise chalky, linear frame. This energy runs through the finish, adding rich, baked apple notes and additional decadence with further oxygen exposure, and I suspect it will develop additional layers and nuance with time in the bottle.
