The 2024 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a very capable bouquet with yellow plum, hints of hazelnut and litchi, a light menthol note hanging out off-stage. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Not as complex or as mineral-driven as the best Charmes this vintage, though it has a linearity and focus that is commendable. I would just like to see more nerve on the finish but otherwise a competent Meursault-Charmes.
In foudre, so not quite so clear and shows a little bit of lees infused reduction on the nose. Only moderate depth of fruit here and a fair acidity. From two plots, in the lower part of the vineyard, the Charmes was picked a week after the other two Meursaults. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Oct 2025.
Bright lemon colour with plump pear and a touch of white peach on the nose, together with a little flintiness and savoury nuttiness. The palate is a little shy, tightly coiled with a stony depth that suggests this has real potential. Savoury, spicy wood adds some creaminess and undertow. For now, the fruit on the palate is all steely citrus, chiselled against a pithy extract. Give it a couple of years in bottle to unfurl.
