Small quantities of this cult white wine are produced by the Guinaudeau family of Château Lafleur at their Grand Village property.
This is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc (Massal selections from Sancerre planted in 2010) and will be aged in 70% new oak - Taransaud Pureté barrels - with the rest in stainless steel. From 2025 this will be labelled as "Vin de France Blanc".
The 2025 Vin de France Les Champs Libres, crafted entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, reveals a vibrant bouquet of fresh fruit, confit citrus and a distinct mentholated hint. Medium- to full-bodied and dense yet precise, it is defined by racy acidity that brings energy and length, concluding with a long and ethereal finish that underscores its tension and clarity. As usual, this is a real success.
The 2025 Les Champs Libres was picked between August 20 and 22, pure Sauvignon Blanc as usual. This is a little more open for business on the nose compared to the Le Grand Village Blanc, with touches of gooseberry and lime, nicely focused and more forthcoming. The palate is fresh and citrus-driven, with lemon and lime, a dab of white pepper and a twist of bitter lemon towards the finish. Excellent. I could drink this now.Drinking Window
2028 - 2034
Bright lemon in colour. Cool, stony and tight on the nose - there is a subtle, fine citrus and herb tone to the nose, with a little leesy, smoky edge, but this is not hyper aromatic Sauvignon. The palate is open and mineral, sappy in fruit and tangy in acid. There is a salinity running throughout, giving notes of preserved lemon and an almost Burgundian struck flint reduction. A wine with real zip and tang, it should drink well young.
A vivid and tangy white with aromas of Asian pears, green apples and hints of crushed stones and salt. It’s medium-bodied, tight and bright, with al dente fruit at the end. 100% sauvignon blanc.
The 2025 Les Champs Libres is laced with hints of lemon confit, dried flowers, mint, chalk, chamomile and a kiss of French oak. Airy and gracious with good energy, the 2025 has a lot to offer. It's an attractive but quiet white with less energy than most years. 2027 - 2035
