The 2025 Swanesang comes from bush Syrah vines planted in 1996 and 1997 on granite topsoil, with the vines tramline-planted in two rows close to each other in a zigzag pattern with a working gap between them, which apparently entails a lot of work. It has an extraordinarily pure bouquet with raspberry and blackcurrant scents, violet and a dab of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with chiselled tannins, a fine-boned Syrah that evokes the Northern Rhône without obscuring its Cape origin. Lovely white pepper and clove notes emerge towards the supremely well-focused finish. This is from the top drawer. Drink 2028-2048.
