The 2018 Barolo Cannubi is attractive, but also embryonic. Sweet tobacco, cedar, leather, dried herbs and crushed rose petal emerge, but only with some reluctance. Silky Cannubi tannins lend finesse, suggesting what is to come. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2018 is going to need a few years to be fully expressive. The 2018 is suave and very nicely balanced, especially for the year, but it is also the least expressive wine in the range today. 2023-2033
The Brezza family farms a beautiful spot in Cannubi, and their hotel and restaurant are just up the road on the way to the Barolo town center. Their 2018 Barolo Cannubi opens to a rather mild or subdued bouquet, although varietal tones of wild rose, redcurrant, lilac and crushed stone are nicely on display. The effect is quietly nuanced and pretty. Made with certified organic fruit, this is a graceful and slightly understated vintage, but it stands out well against recent past releases. Exactly 9, 316 bottles were released. 2023-2037
