Tasting Notes

The 2025 Springvale Riesling is taut and thrumming aromatically: notes of lemon zest, talc, scratched soapstone and white flowers predominate. In the mouth, the wine is fleshy in its fruit profile yet austere in its acid attack, and together, these make for an awkward pairing in youth. Like a successful arranged marriage, these two extremes will eventually unite, bringing together the best of the warm days and the cold nights that were experienced early in the growing season. There was a significant frost in September of 2024 that damaged some fruit set and vineyards early in the season. Not all vineyards were affected, but it was a bitter blow for those that were, having experienced a similarly damaging frost the spring prior. The 2025 season rolled out with extremely dry conditions, which was felt right across the South Australian state. For those who were able to coax and manage their vineyards through these challenging conditions, the wines are fantastic and, like this Springvale Riesling, will show themselves to be excellent in years to come. I'd be inclined to allow this a year or so of grace in the cellar prior to embarking. 12.3% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2026-2045.

Erin Larkin, RobertParker.com, September 2025

Bright aromas of grapefruit, lemon peel, white flowers, wet slate and lime cordial. The palate is fine and racy, with bright acidity and a mineral-edged finish that persists into a long, pure and mouthwatering close. Excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, August 2025

Very light green-yellow colour; intense and lifted fragrance of lime leaf and lemon blossom, with a creamy pastry/yeasty overtone. The wine is likewise bright and very youthful in the mouth, concentrated, with cleansing acidity, good fruit intensity and persistence, with a hint of mid-palate richness which sets it apart. A precision wine that really sings on the tongue.

Huon Hooke, RealReview.com, July 2025

Very pale, silver yellow colour in the glass. The nose here is fragrant and piercing in its purity, showing green mango, fresh lime and wild fruit blossom. The palate is silky, bright and crystalline in its fruit. There is real cut, with steely refreshing acids slicing through waves of citrus, apple and more of that green mango. The finish is mouthwatering, with a sheen of pure fruit. Tensile and very long, it will hit its stride in five years and doubtless age well in bottle for two decades or more.
