The 2024 Pinot Noir Bohan Vineyard is brisk and finely cut. Sweet dried red cherry, chalk, mint, slate and dried herbs all run through this nervy, ethereal Pinot. All of this fruit is from the original plantings that date back to 1972, still own-rooted and dry farmed. It's a very beautiful wine with strong old-school California inflections that favor structure over forward fruit. (Drink between 2026-2034)
Full bottle 1,344 g. Vines planted by the Bohan family in 1972 at 1,400 ft on Goldridge soils. Picked September 6. 8 barrels produced.
Dense, earthy, intense nose. Fruit first is the dominant impression but it is presented in quite a firm framework. Serious wine. (JR)
The 2024 Bohan Vineyard pinot noir from Jamie Kutch is an absolutely stellar young wine. These are old vines, having been planted in 1972 and in 2024, the wine includes fifty percent whole clusters. It comes in at an even thirteen percent octane and offers up a gorgeous young nose of cherries, pomegranate, roses, a complex base of Goldridge soil, lovely spice tones, just a whisper of oak and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and tangy, with a beautiful touch of sappiness at the core, excellent soil signature and grip, fine-grained tannins and impeccable balance on the long, complex and vibrant finish. This is a great bottle of pinot in the making. (Drink between 2035-2075)
