This is the popular second wine of Château Pichon Lalande - previously known as Reserve de la Comtesse. There is always a high percentage of Merlot in the blend here which makes the wine soft and easy to drink when young. One of Bordeaux's most popular second labels and on top form in recent vintages.
In 2024 there was mildew in the Merlot so this is an atypical 72% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 Resèrve de la Comtesse offers up aromas of minty cassis, plums and licorice, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and velvety palate that emphasizes upfront charm.
Deep garnet-purple colored. Pops from the glass with cheery scents of fresh blackberries, mulberries, and black currants, leading to hints of lavender oil, pencil lead, and damp soil. The light-bodied palate is refreshing and pure with lightly chewy tannins and a savory finish.
72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc. pH 3.7, IPT 65. The yield was 20 hl/ha were this year at Pichon Baron, vs. 39 hl/ha in 2023.
The 2024 Réserve de la Comtesse is a very racy, sexy wine. Crushed flowers, mint, lavender, new leather, mocha and spice all grace this exquisite, wonderfully nuanced Réserve. All the elements are so well balanced. Silky tannins add to the wine's total feeling of finesse, but the aromatics are just as inviting. Tasted three times.
A lighter vintage but juicy and refined, showing lots of crunch and freshness. Healthy tannins are firm and lightly chewy with medium body and an al dente finish. 72% cabernet sauvignon, 24% merlot and 4% cabernet franc.
