A very early tasting of this wine, which generally takes quite a while to show its best, the 2022 Batar has a silver/straw color and is fresh, opening with notes of fresh melon, crushed almonds, hints of vanilla, quince, and lilac. Full-bodied, this vintage offers a refreshing spine of acidity, and its perfume persists on the long, gently tapering finish. It’s only going to gain in depth and come together. It has more crunchiness in this vintage at this stage and will benefit from another few years in bottle. Drink 2026-2038. 16,300 bottles produced. (Drink between 2026-2038)
The 2022 Batàr from Querciabella is a lovely bottle. This barrel-fermented cuvée is crafted from a fifty-fifty blend of pinot bianco and chardonnay, with the wine raised in twenty percent new oak each year. The wine comes in at fourteen percent octane in this vintage and offers up a bright and complex aromatic constellation of lemon, pear, a hint of green olive, chalky soil tones, almond, a touch of vanillin oak and a lovely topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is bright, young, full-bodied and complex, with a beautiful core of fruit, lovely soil elements, a fine spine of acidity and excellent focus and balance on the long, zesty and complex finish. Fine, fine juice. The Batàr bottling has a fine track record for aging, so this is still a youthful wine and more generosity and complexity will certainly emerge with extended cellaring.
