Syrah Topside, Keermont Vineyards 2020

Tasting Notes

The 2020 Syrah Single Vineyard Series Topside comes from unirrigated west-facing vines on sandstone soil, 15% whole bunch and matured for 22 months in seasoned 500-litre French oak. This is a little higher-toned in style, black cherries and black plum, quite floral with hints of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied, very smooth, a touch of white pepper from the stems and demonstrates a tad more detail on the finish. Excellent. Drink: 2026-2044

Topside is a cooler site at Keermont, but it still yielded a wine with 15% alcohol here. Subtly wooded in older barrels, with 15% whole bunches during fermentation, this is an intense, inky, effortlessly concentrated Syrah with lots of damson and black fig, top notes of violet and lavender and a stony, well-structured finish. 2026-33.
