Exhibiting generous aromas of cherries, espresso roast, dark chocolate and baking spices, the 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is medium to full-bodied, deep and elegantly muscular, with a broad-shouldered chassis of powdery tannin, lively acids and a nicely defined finish. This has turned out very well, though it will require patience.
Bright and deep crimson in colour. The nose has weight and vigour. Perfectly on the cusp of red and black fruit notes, with some dark cherries in the mix. Fine, intriguing wine. So much energy on the palate, a littler new wood, but well folded in, fresher red fruit at the back, and very good length, a wine which is in harmony and with the power to develop very well from here. Drink from 2030.
