Echo de Lynch Bages 2024

RegionBordeaux
Subregion France > Bordeaux > Left Bank > Pauillac

Grape VarietyCabernet Sauvignon/Merlot

Formerly known as Haut Bages Averous but rebranded in 2008, the second wine of Château Lynch Bages has a modern label that brings it up to date with the exciting renovations taking place here. Maturation is in barrels that have seen one vintage of Lynch Bages. The style of this wine is very much like Lynch Bages itself rather than that of an easy-drinking 2nd label.

In 2024 Echo is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. Yield 29.5 hl/ha.

Tasting Notes

The 2024 Echo de Lynch-Bages, aged in 20% new oak and representing around one-third of the crop, showed a lot of reduction on the nose when I tasted it at the château, as well as a little greenness. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a dash of black pepper and a light marine note towards the finish. To be honest, there's a large gap between this and the Grand Vin in this vintage. Drink: 2027-2035

Neal Martin, vinous.com, May 2025

Mid ruby colour. The nose has quite a deep, spicy, smoky fruit profile. Sinewy incense and tobacco fruit line the palate, which opens sweetly but quickly tightens with Echo's textbook chalky, slightly austere tannins. Finishing crunchy and firm, this will need a few years in bottle.

Thomas Parker MW, Farr Vintners, April 2025

Deep garnet-purple colored. Races out with ready-to-go notes of plum pudding and raisin cake, giving way to hints of Chinese five spice, sandalwood, and dried mint. The light-bodied palate is lightly chewy and refreshing with dried berry flavors and an earthy finish.

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot. pH 3.62. IPT 69. Aging 14 months in French oak barrels, 20% new.

Lovely depth and concentration, love the precision and uplift, fragrant and leafy, the juice brings a sense of bounce and pleasure to the dark fruits. 20% new oak. 3.62 pH.

The 2024 Echo de Lynch-Bages is plush, supple and seductive, all the qualities of the Grand Vin, on a naturally smaller scale. Silky contours wrap around a core of dark red plum fruit, mocha, spice, new leather and cedar. This is a terrific Echo that will drink well right out of the gate. 2028 - 2036

Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, April 2025

Some baked cherries and strawberries on the nose. Juicy and fresh with medium body and tight, fine-grained tannins. The fruity finish has very good length. 53% cabernet sauvignon and 47% merlot.
