This great Premier Cru vineyard faces South-East and is certainly one of the stars of Pouilly Fuisse. A wine to serve blind next to a Meursault at three times the price. Elevage in oak barrels with 25% new. 800 cases produced in 2024. Bright lemon in colour. There is struck match reduction, seductive wood smoke and powerful fruit fighting for attention here on an impressive and very enticing nose. You get the sense that despite the already-intense aromatics, this is tight and will give even more with time. The palate is much the same; dense, focused and intense with real weight of fruit slowly uncoiling in the mouth, showing a full array of fruit from pithy citrus to ripe peach and even moving gently to more exotic fruit. This smoky, intense and layered wine is still just waking up - there is no doubt it will improve with time in bottle. A Grand Vin worthy of its status, this is a knockout bottling in 2024. Outstanding.
Julian Desplans (wine maker and right-hand man of Jean-Marie Guffens) says that the 2024 Verget wines have both minerality and power. Picked from September 10th to 28th. They are reminiscent of the 2010 and 2014 vintages.
