Chambertin, Duroché 2019

Tasting Notes

A new négociant cuvée. 150 litres made, which will turn into 100 magnums. Fine glowing purple. There is great intensity on the nose: how to compare it to the domaine Clos de Bèze? a touch more magisterial, but less suave perhaps. What a depth of flavour, to say nothing of the impeccable balance, then it just seems to get ever richer and deeper. It is all in a very dense dark red fruit here, no black notes, with excellent length. Rejuvenation time!

A new addition to the Duroché range is the 2019 Chambertin Grand Cru, which derives from a tiny parcel, planted north-south and situated just below the similarly tiny parcel farmed by Domaine Dugat-Py. Wafting from the glass with scents of raspberries, cherries and sweet soil tones, framed by a deft albeit unusually prominent patina of new oak, it's full-bodied, deep and complete, with a harmonious but reserved profile. Built around lively acids and ripe tannins, this is a very promising Chambertin in the making.
