Saint Joseph Babylone, Domaine Julien Cecillon 2022

Tasting Notes

Like the Saint-Joseph Lieu-dit Saint-Joseph from the same vintage, the 2022 Saint-Joseph Babylone used 100% whole clusters during fermentation and aged for 18 months in French oak barriques (roughly 5% new). Using grapes grown on the Southern part of the long Saint-Joseph appellation, the 2022 is a taut Syrah, opening with black fruit, cedar and licorice notes. Clear-cut and classic, the polished 2022 checks out with focus on the moderately long finish. (Drink between 2027-2032)

100% whole bunch. Fermentation in stainless steel then ageing for 18 months in barrels (5% new). Cask sample. Tasted blind. A slight perfumed note with violet and balsamic notes. Firm tannins on the mid palate and fresh acidity beneath. There is a nice spice to the fruit as well on the taut finish. (AC) (Drink between 2024-2029)
