The 2014 L'Evangile comes racing out of the blocks on the nose with plenty of black cherry, blueberry, cold stone and black truffle scents, quintessentially Pomerol with impressive delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly grainy texture, lovely black fruit here laced with Earl Grey, spice and sage, quite intense and fanning out gloriously towards the long finish. This seems to have gained precision after bottling and I did warn that it may merit a higher score. This is a deeply impressive L'Evangile that might challenge Lafite-Rothschild in the long term. The blackberry, mushroom and oyster-shell character really comes out. Full body and flavors of dark chocolate, walnuts and concentrated berries. Structured. Bitter-chocolate aftertaste. Try drinking in 2022.
Tasted blind. Rich and exciting on the nose. Juicy and vibrant. Not heavy but with really good zest and length. Super-clean.

Consistently one of the finest and most seductive wines of Pomerol, made by the winemaking team of Chateau Lafite. 20% of the fruit is relegated to the second label Blason de l'Evangile. This year the Merlot was picked 22nd September to 4th October, and the Cabernet from 3rd to 7th October. 82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, with 100% new oak. Deep ruby colour. Bright red fruit on the nose is really pure. The essence of cherries with a delicious overlay of perfumed new wood. Impressively focused. The smooth palate has a ripe cherry and raspberry character with a little spice from well used oak. There is a lovely suppleness, great itensity and precise balance. This is profound and powerful, an excellent Pomerol and one of the best in recent years from Evangile.
This alluring red features velvety tannins carrying notes of crushed plum, warm blackberry preserves and dark licorice, gaining muscle through the charcoal-scored finish. There's a deep tug of warm earth throughout, and this needs a little time to stretch out. Best from 2020 through 2030. 3,500 cases made.
The nose has a perfumed charm with the fragrance of woodland violets the start of the palate fresh a mix of bilberry and bramble. It fills out in the middle with ripe fruit, fleshy, supple lush the tannins well handled. There are some fresher fruits at the back slightly lighter but the finish has depth richness and sweet fruited power. 2022-40
All the Cabernet Franc was used in L'Evangile this year, with none of it going to the second wine, Blason, such was its quality. Concentrated, ripe and just a little figgy, this has plenty of stylish, perfumed oak, silky tannins and a long finish. Needs time to integrate in barrel.
The Château L’Evangile 2014 is a blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc, the latter from re-planted vines that have come into the grand vin. It has a very refined bouquet, the Cabernet Franc lending a slight savory character. The palate is beautifully structured with a fine line of acidity. The black fruit is suffused with a hint of sweet coconut coming through on the finish from the oak. That will be subsumed with time. This is quite a powerful L’Evangile with fine tannins and an insistent grip. This is an impressive L'Evangile and it may warrant a higher score after bottling. Drink: 2022 - 2045
Aromas of blackberries, oyster shell and black licorice. Full body and a firm and muscular backbone of tannins. Slightly austere.
82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc. Harvested 22 September to 4 October. Some of the Cabernet Franc vines were planted in 2006 and are in this for the first time. (Blason is 100% Merlot.) pH 3.8, TA 3.3 g/l (= 5.05 g/l expressed as tartaric).
Black lustrous crimson. Fresh, transparent nose. Round and seductive. Difficult to even see the tannins. Flattering and very vibrant. Long. 14.2%
