Tasting Notes

The 1989 Château Chasse-Spleen is an excellent example of the vintage and this most recent bottle at our vertical tasting showed splendidly well. I last drank this two and a half years ago and the wine showed even better this time around! The superb aromatic constellation reveals a ripe and pure blend of cassis, sweet dark berries, gravelly soil tones, cigar ash, a touch of brown spice, a discreet framing of toasty oak and a lovely topnote of mint. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and à point today, with a superb core of fruit, fine soil inflection and grip, moderate, melting tannins and impeccable balance on the long, complex and very classy finish. This is really a great vintage for Chasse-Spleen! 2025-2075+.
