Livia is the 8th generation working in this cantina, founded in 1820. The wines have attained a somewhat cult status in recent years. The vineyard holdings are impressive to say the least and the style here is one of dark, brooding fruit but with a florality and acidity that keeps everything fresh and focussed.

Lots of rose petals with tar, violets and licorice undertones. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with significant upfront fruit, firm tannins and a flavorful, persistent finish. Concentrated, with lots of blue-fruit flavors. Better from 2027.
Villero, Mariondino and apparently from Monforte. Pale ruby. Salty and minerally on the nose with slumbering raspberry fruit. A little racy at first and then ripe raspberry with firm, gravelly tannins. Slow aromatic finish suggests there is more to come. I’d wait an additional year. 2025-2033.
