This is a serious Pomerol in its own right, but it is sold at a fraction of the price of Eglise Clinet and is often the best value wine of the appellation. Previously a 100% Merlot cuvée, Cabernet Franc has been included since 2018 when part of the Merlot vineyard was also pulled up, reducing production levels. The fruit comes from two plots on sandier soils (one by the church, one near La Fleur Petrus) rather than from the vines of Eglise Clinet itself.
Under 5,000 bottles will be produced in 2024 from 0.6 hectares of vines. Aged in 70% new oak. 13.5% ABV.

The 2024 La Petite Eglise was picked between September 20 and 28 and matured in 70% new oak. This was showing a bit of reduction on the nose that made it a little harder to read, but there is certainly decent fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and impressive structure given the vintage and that this is a Deuxième Vin with plenty of mineral-driven black fruit on the vivacious finish. It is excellent.2027 - 2040
Bright ruby colour. Spicy and plummy on the nose, this is fragrant with an immediate and enticing profile. The palate is juicy with succulent red fruits at the core which are framed by sandy but gentle tannins. Increasingly spicy with a saline, sandalwood tone and lingering notes of cherry blossom, this is well made in a tricky year.
Medium-bodied with caressing, cashmere-textured tannins that are very pretty. Hints of chocolate and spices. The richness comes through beautifully in the pure fruit finish.
Deep garnet-purple colored. Sashay out with eager-to-please scents of kirsch, fresh mulberries, and red plums, followed by hints of rose bud tea and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate has fantastic freshness with impressive intensity and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and minerally. Nice!
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.
The colour here is vibrant ruby and violet, this has so much precision and energy, sapidy, cherry pit, violets, again the textural side of the vintage is at the fore, coffee beans, espresso and black chocolate, notes that I have not written in many wines this year, No chaptilisation, 3.62ph, 70% new oak, harvest september 20 to 28. Love this, has a sense of vibration that might make this the 2nd wine of the vintage. If this comes out at a good price, run don't walk, as they say.
The 2024 La Petite Eglise is really in a class by itself when it comes to the second wines of Pomerol. Dark and sumptuous in the glass, the 2024 exudes attractive inner perfume and fabulous balance. Inky dark red fruit, pomegranate lavender, spice, menthol, incense and rose petal stain the palate. This racy, striking Pomerol is lights out. I would be thrilled to own it. 2026-2034.
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2024 La Petite Eglise offers up aromas of dark berries, spices and licorice, followed by a medium-bodied, compact palate with tangy acids and firm structuring tannins
