Tasted with Denis Dubourdieu at the chateau. With 12% alcohol, 215gms residual sugar and 4.2 gms total acidity, this is due to be bottled in June. It has a very well defined on the nose with notes of honey, brioche, fresh apricots with a touch of oyster shell. The palate is beautifully balanced with wonderful acidity, very elegant and refined with touches of barley sugar, orange rind, honey and a stem ginger. Utterly composed on the finish that is very similar to the 2010, this is a beautiful wine. Drink 2014-2030+ Tasted April 2011. Drink 2014 - 2030
This is rich and concentrated, with crème brûlée and apple crumble on the nose and palate. Full-bodied and very sweet. Thick and powerful. Layered and massive.
Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 L'Extravagant drifts sensuously from the glass with evolving notions of burnt sugar, apple pie, crème caramel and praline plus hints of honey-coated walnuts and powdered ginger. Very sweet, rich, full-on unctuous and densely laden in the mouth, the palate possesses almost electric freshness supporting layer after layer of dried fruit and nut notions, finishing very long. It won’t cellar for as long as some of the 2009s, but this sure is delicious right now. 2019 - 2030
This wine will only be produced in half bottles. The price quoted is per 24 halves but customers may order in cases of 12 halves at half the price.
There are probably around seven casks of the 2009 L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daene, although that may decrease a little after racking. An equal blend of Semillon and Sauvignon, it delivers a record 220gms residual sugar and yet still exudes astounding minerality and precision, with touches of clear honey, frangipane and cold wet stones. The palate is full-bodied with a mellifluous texture, perfect acidity to slice through that rich botrytized fruit, stunning balance, citrus peel, apricot, Clementine, lemon curd and a hint of ginger. With awesome length, leaving that tingling sensation akin to Szechuan pepper, this wine truly lives up to its name.
