Echézeaux, Domaine d'Eugénie 2023

Tasting Notes

The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru includes 80% whole bunch. There is impressive clarity and finesse on the nose, unfurling in the glass with red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, lively and poised. The palate is medium-bodied with chiseled tannins and a sense of symmetry and poise, lingering with a mineral-rich finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2028-2050)

A slightly riper nose is also exuberantly floral in character with notes of rose petal, violet and lavender adding elegance to the spicy blend of red currant and plum scents. There is both good volume and vibrancy to the utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that display good power on the firm, serious, compact and lightly austere finale. This is lovely and I particularly like the Zen-like balance. Note: from a .55 ha parcel in En Orveaux with vines planted in 1924 and 1979; 80% whole cluster

80% whole bunch vinification, with six new barrels in 10. A pleasing purple with a heady, at least expressive, red fruit and rose petal nose. Medium bodied with good tension, some slightly furry tannins building the backbone, and a long pleasing finish. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
