Tasting Notes

The 2024 Cantenac Brown was cropped at a very low 16 hectoliters per hectare and represents 52% of the estate's production. The new winery's battery of smaller tanks made it possible to isolate sub-parcels to attain more homogenous maturity. Offering up aromas of cassis, violets and pencil shavings, it's medium-bodied, with good density and concentration, built around sweet tannins and integrated acids. It's a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27.5% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The 2024 Cantenac Brown is a classic wine from the château. Even in this vintage, all the signatures are present. Opulent dark fruit, new leather, incense, cloves, new leather and chocolate are dialed up. Technical Director Jose Sanfins and his team did a terrific job capturing all the elements of the house style, which is about as strong a compliment as is possible in this vintage. The 2024 will be fascinating to taste in a vertical some years down the road. New oak is 60%. Tasted two times. Drink: 2034-2049
