Ex-cellar bottle served at Chateau Coutet. The ’89 Coutet is clear with a bright amber hue. The bouquet does not quite have the definition of either the ’98 or ’01 tasted alongside, with notes of dried mango, apricot, quince and a touch of cooking apple. The palate is vibrant and full of energy, displays superb balance and delineation: dried pineapple, mango, a dash of ginger and a saline tang right on the finish. One has to admire the harmony and the precision of this ’89 that should age gracefully over the next 20 years. Drink now-2030. Tasted April 2010. 2010 - 2030
The 1989 Coutet, a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, is pale to medium amber colored and scented of crème brûlée, preserved peaches and lemon tart aromas with hints of honey-coated nuts, cinnamon toast and rose water. It has a wonderfully refreshing palate packed with evolved honey-nut and baking spice layers, finishing very long with a citrus peel lift. Drink Date
