Attractive, with personality and texture to the loganberry and blackberry fruit. The muscular tannins have juice running through them, and overall this has plenty of lift and tension while remaining appealingly unfussy.
Always a wine that leans on classicism, 2019's natural softness rounds out the edges and offers some plush black fruit. Mid ruby-purple in the glass, notes of black cherry, dried rosemary and blackcurrant from the core of both the nose and palate. As the second wine of Leoville Barton it still offers some tannic oomph, a chewy backbone pointing to the northern Médoc. Here, however, the structure is ripe, coated in the black fruit at the core. Well made, with good bones and admirable fruit.
A total charmer with plenty of up-front appeal, the 2019 La Réserve De Léoville Barton offers up lots of red and black currants, cedar pencil, leafy herbs, and a touch of spring flowers in a more medium-bodied, nicely balanced, fleshy, and forward style. It will keep for 10-12 years. Drink 2022-2034.
